About This Blog

The name The Early Riser was chosen because it is what I do, and because I think the qualities of early morning are underrated. Awakening in the dark and making that first cup of coffee, while almost everyone else is sleeping, has a certain quality of stolen time about it. The quiet is healing and excellent preparation for the melee that is to come. It is a time to think, write, read, meditate, and to plan.

It is also a time for creative work.

As we rise up out of sleep, we find that we are more in touch with our authentic selves. In many ways we are more 'informed' in these early hours. Using this time to guide the rest of the day can be extremely useful. It is my experience that this is the most productive time for the day. It is also the most nourishing. Reading the biographies of writers, I have learned that many found the evening hours to be the most productive. This is not my inner nature.

It is my hope that you will find something in these postings that will be useful to you. They are written on a variety of subjects. The one thing that ties them all together is that they have all been written in the early hours of the new day.
